Hail Damage Roof Inspection in Frisco

Three dated storms named Frisco: April 3, 2014, March 24, 2019 and March 14, 2024. If the roof was on the house for any of them and nobody has walked it since, this is the page.

In Brief

A hail inspection is a walk of every slope looking for bruised and fractured shingles, dented soft metal and spatter marks, with the findings written down and photographed.

The dates that matter are on the storm record, each with its source. This site repeats no other hail claim.

This site has no role in filing, negotiating, adjusting or settling insurance claims. The inspection tells you the condition of the roof. What a policy does with that is between you and your insurer.

What the Contractor Looks For

  • Bruises on shingles: soft spots where the mat under the granules has been fractured by a stone. They are found by hand as much as by eye.
  • Granule loss in round patterns, exposing the dark asphalt beneath, distinct from the even wear of age.
  • Dents in soft metal: gutters, downspouts, vent caps, pipe boot flanges, the drip edge. Metal records hail size and direction better than shingles do.
  • Spatter marks on oxidized surfaces, which show where hail fell even where it did no damage.
  • Collateral damage: cracked window screens, chipped paint on upper-story fiber cement, dented AC fins, which tell the direction the storm came from.
  • The test square: a marked ten-foot-by-ten-foot area on each slope where hits are counted, the standard way of describing how heavy the damage is.

The Three Frisco Dates

April 3, 2014 brought Frisco reports of up to two inches, from a trained spotter, in a National Weather Service event summary. March 24, 2019 brought a measured 2.75-inch report at Coit Road and Main Street, east of Frisco, which the newspaper described as baseball-sized citing the Weather Service, with 1.75-inch and two-inch social-media reports inside the city. March 14, 2024 brought a 1.75-inch report two miles west-northwest of Frisco and a 2.5-inch report at Eldorado Parkway and FM 423, along with a brief tornado near the UNT Frisco campus.

Hail of one inch and more can bruise a composition shingle. Every one of those reports is above that line. Whether a particular roof was hit, and how hard, depends on where it stands and which way its slopes face, which is why the inspection is per house and per slope.

A Roof Installed After a Storm

Many Frisco roofs date from the months after March 2019 or March 2024. Those replacements were done fast, by every crew in the county at once, and some were done well. A hail inspection on a 2019 roof after the 2024 storm is also a workmanship check on the 2019 job: nail placement, flashing reuse, vent count. Ask the contractor to note anything that is not hail.

What This Site Will Not Do

It has no role in filing, negotiating, adjusting or settling any claim, and it will not say whether a policy covers a roof.

It will not discuss what a policy pays. Texas law restricts contractor advertising on that subject, and this site stays out of it entirely.

It will not quote hail sizes beyond the sourced ones above.

Questions on This Page

My neighbor got a new roof after the 2024 storm. Do I need one?

Maybe, maybe not. Hail is patchy across a subdivision and roofs face different directions. An inspection of your own roof is the only answer.

How soon after a storm should the roof be checked?

Within weeks is sensible, because bruised shingles weather faster than sound ones. Roofs that were never checked after 2019 or 2024 are still worth checking now.

Will the contractor go on the roof?

Yes. A hail inspection cannot be done from the ground or from a drone alone; bruises are found by touch.

Is the inspection free?

Many contractors inspect at no charge hoping for the job; some charge for a written report. Ask which before booking.

Which Storm Was Your Roof There For?

Give the year the roof went on. The contractor checks it against the record.
